| The mountains in central Colorado have lots of leftovers from the heyday of mining in the area, little mining camps that give a taste of what life was like for those hardy folks. Mayflower Gulch is a popular spot to hike to, or even to drive, if you have the skills and the right sort of vehicle. It's hard to imagine what it would have been like to spend the winter in a cabin at 10,000 feet. I expect you wouldn't have seen much of the neighbors, even if they were close enough to see. The day we were there it was raining, so we had the place to ourselves, and beautiful, soft light. |
