| Early one morning in Yosemite, I went out to watch the sun do its magic on the face of El Capitan. After the show was over, I wandered across the meadow toward the car. On the way, I found this large burned-over tree trunk on the ground, with last year's ferns still draped across its fire-scarred corpse. I was fascinated by the contrast between the soft, complex shapes of the ferns and the dark texture of the burned wood. |
