| I had the good fortune to spend a couple of days with some friends who have a place near Chamonix in the French Alps. I had never seen mountains like those in my life. On the one full day I had, I took the telepherique (cable car) up to L'Aiguille du Midi at about 12,000 feet. The ride up involves changing cars halfway up the mountain, and part of the second stage is practically vertical, gliding along quite close to a rock face where climbers can sometimes be seen. Many people who ride up ski the 11 kilometers back to town, or start high-altitude mountaineering trips from the ski station. The views are incredible. I was shooting 35mm, so there is a limit to the size of the prints, but the mist swirling around the peaks gives them a mysterious, ethereal look. Unfortunately, I overdeveloped much of the film from the trip, and a lot of potentially interesting images were damaged. I try to look on that as an excuse to go back, although I really believe that missed photos are gone forever. You might go back and find another interesting picture, but the ones that you didn't get are gone. |
| As most people seem to prefer them, prices are for framed prints, ready to hang. I use a very nice matt black wood frame 7/8 of an inch wide, with a white mat. If you would like to order unframed prints, go to the "Purchase" page for pricing. |
